About Amber - an introduction to "Defrump your Style"

Hi everyone! My name is Amber. I am a 29-year-old wife and mother of two. I met my husband, Christian, in college and we had a fairy-tale romance. I even got the “happily ever after” proposal with fireworks! Ok, maybe the fireworks were just a box of snakes we bought before going to the park. And maybe it was too dark to even see them. However, the past six and a half years of marriage have brought me much joy and delight. God has truly blessed me with an incredible man who is a tremendous example of love.

Soon after our wedding, we moved to Christian’s hometown, Fayetteville, also known as “Hog Country”. Small business owners here are apparently required to use the word Razorback or Hog in the business name. A few examples include Razorback Pizza, Razorback Optical, Hog Shop, Razorback Roofing, Razorbraces (scary), Wild Hog Photography…. Well, the latter might not be a business yet, but combine my love for photography with my passion for the Hogs, and it’s only a matter of time. :)

I began my career in Northwest Arkansas as an elementary school teacher, but after three years, I pursued bigger and better things as a stay at home mom. My soon to be three year old son Elliott is our only hope for early retirement. He is a freakishly smart child when it comes to his vocabulary and memory skills. If by chance he peaks at age 8 and doesn’t go on to be a zillionaire, I plan to write a best seller titled Inappropriate Things My Two Year Old Said.

Asher is my five month old jolly boy. I say jolly because that is the best word to describe his happy, fat, old-man face. Every day is exciting as we watch him grow and develop his sweet little personality.

There was a time in my life when we actually had pictures of my husband and me hanging in our house. My mornings were spent curling my golden blonde hair and applying my department store make-up. I can recall when shorts were a must for going to the beach.

Now, my house is a mini shrine of my boys. Most mornings my faded and darkened hair goes directly into a rubber band. The department store make-up has long run out, and when going to the beach, a turtleneck and long slacks are (or seem like) a must to cover my new mom body. In fact, my friend Sara and I are thinking of starting our own line of “Puritan Swimwear”.

Though I know all these things have changed, every time I go to the mall, I walk in thinking “I look pretty good right now.” Then, I walk past a store window and see my sad little reflection standing next to their decked-out mannequin. I start to wonder, “What’s happened to me? I used to look fresh. Have I entered the ‘mom jeans’ years?” Yikes!

Proverbs 18:22 says “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” Am I a good thing for my husband? Does my attitude and appearance make him desire me over any other woman? I must admit, I frequently wander down the gray path to Frump Town, and that is most definitely not a good thing.

Thankfully, I am blessed to have three very good friends who also want to start down the road to Beautiful. I look forward to learning from them and being encouraged to defrump my relationships, home, health, and wardrobe. By no means am I any kind of “fashionista”, but I plan to work hard to learn tips and tricks on how to have a fresh look on a shoe string budget.
Thank you all for reading. Now let’s start defrumping!

  1. I laughed and cried all at the same time. You always can make me laugh out loud! I love this because I love you and I love that you are finding the answers you need to accomplish all that your heart desires in your life, as wife, mom, friend! When you wrote me a few months back I knew then that you were on to something big, the need to be better, do better, succeed, be happy, fulfilled, and loving your husband in new ways and new dimensions. You have everything you need, and this blog, this endeavour, is BRILLIANT!! Making this commitment, investing the time, creativity, and digging into all of your collective resources, bringing out the brightest gifts each of you have, will rock some foundations, shake the devil up and make you all the women God intended you to be! Happy blessings!!
