Big Dog, Little Dog, and the Basics

"Fred and Ted were friends.
Fred was big.
Ted was little."

I have one of the best and sweetest group of friends. A common denominator between them is they are each whole-heartedly seeking to serve the Lord. Unfortunately, you couldn't find a more diverse group physically. I say unfortunately only because this means I can't raid their closets.

I have two challenges for you this week. The first is know your body shape. Whether you're an apple-shape, pear-shape, hourglass, or rectangle shape will determine what clothes look best on you. Be honest about your shape. We would all like to think we have the perfect hour glass figure, but alas, we all do not. It might take a friend's opinion if you're having trouble discerning which shape you are.

The second challenge is to look for the basics in your closet. Just like a house, your wardrobe needs a foundation on which to build. Once you have the basics, you can mix, match, and accessorize to create different outfits.

Here are four lists (based on body shape) of the basics to look for in your closet.

Apple-Shape
  • Black dressy shirt (nothing clingy)
  • Dark colored t-shirts that skim the body (v-necks that don't go too low)
  • Jacket or Blazer that falls right below the waist (wear it open to create a vertical line)
  • Light washed boot-cut jeans
  • A-line skirt (should hit 1 inch above the knee)
  • Black dress (v-neck, cotton, empire waist)
  • Camisoles (any neutral color)
  • Flats (those cute little ballet slipper type shoes)
  • Boots
  • Black heels
  • One great bag
  • Good undergarments (Consider getting professionally fitted for a bra. Also, control pants such as Spanx do wonders.)

Pear-Shape
  • White dressy shirt (can be button down)
  • Basic t-shirts that are dressier than regular t-shirts (white, black, and any other color)
  • Jacket or blazer (should hit the hip)
  • Cardigan
  • Dark washed boot-cut or straight leg jeans
  • A-line skirt
  • Black dress (wraps and A-line are the best)
  • Camisoles (any neutral color)
  • Flats (those cute little ballet slipper type shoes)
  • Boots
  • Black heels
  • One great bag
  • Good undergarments (Consider getting professionally fitted for a bra. Also, control pants such as Spanx do wonders.)

Hourglass-Shape
  • White dressy shirt (sheer soft fabric)
  • Basic t-shirt (clingy fabric, v-neck)
  • Jacket or Blazer
  • Cardigan
  • Dark washed boot-cut jeans
  • A-line or pencil skirt
  • Black dress
  • Camisoles (any neutral color)
  • Flats (those cute little ballet slipper type shoes)
  • Boots
  • Black heels
  • One great bag
  • A good bra

Rectangle-Shape
  • White dressy shirt
  • Basic t-shirt (crew neck, black, white, or other color)
  • Jacket or Blazer (structured up high with waist)
  • Cardigan
  • Skinny jeans or boot-cut jeans
  • A-line or pencil skirt ( flowing material if A-line)
  • Black dress
  • Camisoles (any neutral color)
  • Flats (those cute little ballet slipper type shoes)
  • Boots
  • Black heels
  • One great bag
  • A good bra (one that will give a boost)

Good luck on the challenges! Pictures will be posted soon of the Defrump Me Girls taking on the challenge.
