Pastor Appreciation Gift

October is Clergy Appreciation month, and tomorrow (Sunday, October 9) is when many churches choose to celebrate and thank their pastors in services. In my quest to be intentional about getting out of my comfort zone to bless others, I knew I wanted to do something to honor the occasion. Our family has planned a couple of special gifts for our pastor Bro. Brian Disney, and I will share one with you (you know, in case you need some inspiration like I did)!

First, my uncle makes these amazing hand-milled soaps in a variety of scents, and he generously gives us a whole sampler every Christmas. It's enough soap to last 3 families all year! So, we had this wonderful leather-scented bar in our cabinet just asking to be given to a deserving man (don't worry, the hubs has his own!).

Second, a while back I ran across this free printable on Pinterest (of course), and I knew then that I wanted to give it with soap in the future (in fact, I described it as "To give with soap" when I pinned it on my "Nifty Gifty" board). :-) Yay for thinking ahead!!

When I decided this is what I wanted to do for our pastor (he's on a restricted diet, so food gifts were out, and he's got enough nicknacks in his office that I wanted to give something he could use up), I was excited to be able to put it all together!

All I did was set my printer to print 2 pages per sheet (so that the strip is 8.5" long), printed it on nicer paper, and then trimmed it to just the size of the words. I wrapped it around the bar of soap and used some double-sided tape to stick the ends together.

(Also, I thought about printing and framing this to go above a bathroom sink or something, but since the printable wasn't designed for 8x10, the quality wasn't great at that size. At least not for a gift -- but you may see it in my guest bath...)

Along with a little hand-written card from our family and a reciting of Psalm 23 — newly memorized by almost-5-year-old Riley — I hope we can express some of our appreciation for all the wonderful things our pastor is and all he does.

Our Sunday preschool class has also prepared a couple of songs to sing during our family service because Bro. Brian has such a soft heart for our little ones. And really, you just can't beat a bunch of 3, 4, and 5-year-olds singing "This Little Light of Mine" for cuteness! :-)

Do you have plans to bless your church leadership this month?
