My Thanksgiving {and my first time shopping Black Friday}

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday! My brother is in from out of town, and it's been so much fun to visit with him and have him around. His birthday was actually yesterday, so that was extra special!

I thought I'd show you our Thanksgiving table setting since that was my contribution to the meal (plus a couple pies). My favorite part of entertaining is definitely the table setting! I had a lot of fun picking out the different pieces with my mom, and the final setting is nothing like our original idea (love how that happens!). :-)

Simple, yet elegant. We were on a budget, so we didn't get place mats, chargers, or a table runner because we were already purchasing new plates, napkins, and the centerpiece candle holder. I actually made the napkin rings for $0.50 each! We had found some beautiful napkin rings at Bed, Bath & Beyond that we LOVED, but they were $4 each. Yikes! We needed enough for 10 napkins. That would've been $40 just for napkin rings!! So, instead, I went to Hobby Lobby and ended up recreating a similar look for $0.50. Hobby Lobby's Christmas berries were 60% off, so I just shaped them into small rings and used green floral wire to hold them together in the back. Perfect! And these can totally be used again for our Christmas parties. Yay!! :-)

Of course the meal was absolutely delish! Thanks, Mom! She has a bachelor's degree in Home Economics and she is my go-to lady for all the cooking, sewing, crocheting, etc., etc., etc., questions I have. I'm so blessed! :-)

Later, my sis and I started thinking about the possibility of shopping Black Friday. We neither one had ever done it, so we were a bit terrified of the idea. :-) But the more we talked about it, the more we got ourselves excited about it. Reading Susan's Black Friday post was super helpful too!

My biggest tip for shopping Black Friday? Don't do it impulsively! Plan it out. We were totally impulsive and had no idea really what we were doing. :) But it ended up being a successful trip and we got a TON of good deals! Also, when you see the long lines, don't get scared. We almost decided to nix the whole thing, but now I'm so glad we didn't!

We decided to go to Kohl's because it's a good place to get a lot of different things. Well, apparently, everyone else thought so too! The sale started at midnight, so we headed that way around 11pm. Got sidetracked for about an hour waiting in the Starbuck's drive-through! But we got to Kohl's pretty much right at midnight, and BOY were the lines ever looonnnnngggg. I tried to get a few pictures, but they're all pretty blurry. Sorry!

It was definitely a mad house inside the store, but people were actually very nice and pleasant. We shopped for about an hour, and got everything on our list. Then we stood in line for about an hour before getting to check out....not too bad! I will say that I would NEVER have attempted this on my own. It was so helpful to have my sister there. That way one of us could stand in line while the other person wanted to check something else out.

We were definitely not prepared for all the stuff we ended up carrying (and scooting) around. My arms were getting sooo tired and I was super hot (next time...think short sleeves!). Thankfully, there was nice lady in front of us in the line, and she had an extra Kohl's shopping bag that she let us use. What a lifesaver!

And how much money did we save??? $429!!! Wow! My sister got several of her Christmas gifts checked off her list. Plus, we got $45 back in Kohl's cash! :-) We had so much fun and we were on such an adrenaline rush after that...so, we decided to try out Toys R Us! I think we could've totally shopped all night! :-)

We finally had to put a stop to our madness, so we didn't do any more after Toys R Us. I think I got home around 4am. A little tired today, but sooo worth it.

That was my Thanksgiving and Black Friday experience. So much fun! Don't forget that Cyber Monday is still coming up. It's a great way to get the same deals without having to fight the crowds. Check out Amazon, Best Buy, Kohl's, Target, Walmart, Overstock, and even Ebay to get some great deals!

So, what's next on my to-do list?
