A Thankful Heart and a Good Head of Hair

I can not even believe Thanksgiving is tomorrow! Didn't fall just begin?! This morning I realized through all the Christmas planning, research I've been attempting to do on fashion,  and just everyday life, I have not slowed down and thought about how much God has blessed me.  My children are healthy and happy.  We have a wide selection of food for every meal.  My husband is the sweetest and most thoughtful man alive.  Most importantly, God loves me every day despite how selfish I am and the evil things that come from my heart.

I started reading 1Samuel this morning and was touched by the thankful heart of Hannah.  She was the wife of  Elkanah, and she was not able to have children.  One day she went to the temple crying out to God and begging him for a son.  She promised her son to God.  Later, the Lord remembered her and blessed her with a son, and she named him Samuel.  She took Samuel to the temple and said "For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshiped the Lord there." 1Samuel 1:27-28

Wow!  Hannah gave her baby back to the Lord!  In the next chapter, she sings a song of thankfulness to God.  "There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God." (Ch. 2 vs 2) I am now inspired to slow down and really thank God for His blessings.

Now this next part has absolutely nothing to do with what I just said, but I feel like I'm always talking about clothes and hair, and I never get to talk about what truly matters. So I'll just jump right into my tip for this week.

One of my good friends recently introduced me to one of her very best friends who happens to be a hair dresser.  Her name is Jessica Jones, and she knows her stuff.  You should check her out here.  She has taught me how to add volume to my hair, how to properly tease my hair (yes, there's a right and wrong way), and how to not have to wash my hair every single day.

Stay tuned for some tutorials on all of the above things.  However, today I'm going to give you a few tips on how to get away with going 2-4 days without washing hair that normally gets washed everyday.

First of all, I was using the wrong shampoo.  Jessica said a good shampoo is one that is not going to lather easily on the first wash.  She also prefers salon shampoo, but if you have to buy regular ol' poor people shampoo, like myself, Garnier Fructis is the best.

Another thing that helps is using root lifter for volume (I will have a tutorial on this later). On days 2,3, and 4, I was able to heat up my roots and do a cool blast of air to add volume and help with any oil situation.

Lauren, swears by the Suave dry shampoo.  She recently just gave me some for Christmas.  So I'll let you all know what I think soon.  She uses it every day, and she has been able to go 4 days without washing her hair!

I want to show you all this picture I took of myself yesterday. All I did this day was comb my hair.   It was day 4 of not washing, and my hair had body, for my hair, and it did not even look oily.  Two weeks ago I would have said that was impossible.  I was a wash it everyday girl.  I'm so happy I can save time, money (on shampoo), and energy on my hair.  And best of all, it looks better than ever!

How about you all? How long do you go without washing your hair?
