Monkey 1st Birthday Party & Printables! {Parties on a Budget}

I've got another fun birthday idea for you today! My youngest turned 1 year old in March, and I knew for 6 months that he was going to have a Monkey-themed first birthday party.

I started pinning ideas 6 months out, but of course you can't do it all. I am happy with the way it turned out for our family party. Check it out!

The cake is always a special piece of the birthday party puzzle. My sister Elizabeth always does a great job. You can find more of her work at her Facebook page.

And she made these adorable cupcakes!! They were inspired by this pin I found, but I think Liz did it better. ;-)

I made some SUPER-delicious southern-style banana pudding - OHSOYUMMY!!! Here's the recipe for that — faithful old Allrecipes.com! For my tall trifle bowl and large crowd, I doubled the recipe and all the ingredients and layers.

In preparation for decorating, I picked up several stuffed monkeys from a consignment sale and thrift store. These made for cheap and easy and reusable decorations, and they were perfect for a first birthday party!

I made this little welcome poster (too bad my writing skills are SO darn awful!!) The monkey face is just a flattened party plate and some construction paper pieces - 1 large heart, 1 large oval and 2 small ovals, plus the wiggly eyes. I got the idea for the mokey from this pin.

Aren't these little guys so cute?!? Just brown party cups, 1 large circle cutout and 2 small circle cutouts of construction paper, wiggly eyes and a marker line mouth. Here was my inspiration. I was in a hurry (and I'm lazy) so I just hot glued everything. For the ears, just fold 1/3 of the small circles back and glue the small folded part to the cup on either side.

After Valentine's Day, I hit up the 50% off sale at Walmart and snagged these monkey-themed favor packs. Each one contained a pencil, notepad, ruler, eraser, and pencil sharpener, for 50 cents each!! So, I made a sheet of favor tags and stapled them to the top of the package. Easy (and super cheap) favors!

And finally, I loved this look, and I wanted an "I AM 1" banner for the high chair, so I created my own!

If you've made it this far, congratulations!! For sticking around, you get the printables I created so you can throw your very own monkey party!

Thanks a Bunch labels
