The claim from the Food Lush blog is that a diluted vinegar rinse will keep your berries from getting moldy! They explain why here. So I decided to put it to the test.
I followed the directions and rinsed my strawberries in vinegar and water. As they said, you couldn't taste the vinegar, even without an extra water rinse. I saved one strawberry for test purposes, because I knew the berries would never go uneaten for even two days in my fridge -- much less a week! Here is the strawberry the day I brought it home (after washing):
And here is the same strawberry NINE days later!! Seriously, I gave birth to a baby while this strawberry was hanging out in my fridge. :-) As you can see, there is no mold. Since it was in the open air, it did dry out a little bit, but other than that it was perfectly good!
I would definitely say this pin was a WIN!
