{Did I Pin a Win?} Preventing Moldy Berries

Do you ever get home from the grocery store with a quart of {expensive!} berries, and get them out the next day just to discover that they are already getting moldy?? That is so frustrating!! So when I saw this tip on Pinterest, I knew I had to give it a try.

The claim from the Food Lush blog is that a diluted vinegar rinse will keep your berries from getting moldy! They explain why here. So I decided to put it to the test.

I followed the directions and rinsed my strawberries in vinegar and water. As they said, you couldn't taste the vinegar, even without an extra water rinse. I saved one strawberry for test purposes, because I knew the berries would never go uneaten for even two days in my fridge -- much less a week! Here is the strawberry the day I brought it home (after washing):

And here is the same strawberry NINE days later!! Seriously, I gave birth to a baby while this strawberry was hanging out in my fridge. :-) As you can see, there is no mold. Since it was in the open air, it did dry out a little bit, but other than that it was perfectly good!

I would definitely say this pin was a WIN!
