{Menu Monday} A Week of Ham

{source}
I used to NEVER buy ham. It felt so expensive, and I guess I thought it was for special occasions like Christmas. Now, you can definitely spend a ton on a ham, but I have found that if I get a basic spiral ham at Aldi or Walmart, it is delicious and we can eat on it all week! So it turns out that it's one of the cheapest meats per-meal for me to buy. And it's SO easy! Oh, one tip -- cut the leftover ham off the bone while it's warm. If you wait and refrigerate it first, it is way messier and harder.

This is a typical ham-in-a-week menu for us:
Monday - Baked Ham, Spinach, Crock Pot Baked Potatoes
Tuesday - Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwiches, Chips
Wednesday - Ham and Cheese Omelets, Toast
Thursday - Beans, Cornbread (with the ham bone!)
Friday - Ham and Spinach Pizza, Caesar Salad (we love pizza with finely chopped leftover ham; it's very similar to pizza places that use the crumbled style of Canadian bacon)
How do you like to cook ham?

  1. My kids absolutely love ham....it doesn't last an entire week for us though-- they will snack on it whenever they get the chance! I love using the ham bone in soups too-- it adds sooo much flavor and yummy bits of ham. Great ideas....

    1. Haha I understand! I'm sure in a few years when my preschoolers are teenagers I'll feel good to get 3 days out of one. ;)

  3. Cheesy ham and potato casserole is great! And it actually doesnt have cheese in it, just a nutritional yeast sauce (google cheesy nutritional yeast sauce) cube up the ham, cube up some potatoes and whatever other veg you have around, cook the veg/potatoes and toss it all together in the hot sauce. Yummy gooey goodness.

  4. I've purchased ham from Von's at less than $2.00 a pound. I can make several breakfasts, lunches and dinners from a large one.
    My husband and son love making sandwiches. And one can never go wrong with a cheese, ham and potato casserole.
